These are great buckles! Beautifully made! In the past, I have always avoided decorative buckles because I thought they were either obnoxious looking or just ugly. I now have at least ten of these buckles on different ratchet belts. These buckles are attractive and I have received several favorable comments from people who have noticed them.

The back of the belt says 100% leather. I'd give it a B since it's more like 80% leather with the upper layer being made of foam. The damage in the pictures is on purpose and not a defect. I separated the layers. The leather underneath seems strong and is a single layer rather than 2 thin layers glued together, which is a big plus. One thing to make note is that since the top layer is foam, it may wear away and the "design" may or may not last very long if it gets damaged or cracked. I think the leather portion is strong and will last but I have my doubt about the durability of the esthetics and how usable the belt will be without the foam layer, which is a shame. The good leather won't do any good if it becomes overall unusable. Only time will tell if it remains pristine. If it was 100% leather then at least you'd know it'll only get better as it wears
