An invaluable guide
A new updated edition that's well worth picking up if you are interested in investing. Rather US-centric in nature it's true, it still has many insights and applicable advice for other countries such as the UK. I find this Dummies edition actually more useful than some [supposedly] more 'advanced/serious' guides, because you get a load of stuff to ponder over and try out, and it covers all the ground from the basics upward, with the usual Dummies flair for accessibility without any sacrifice of detail. If you have more than just a passing interest in investment techniques, this is an invaluable guide.

A well written, interesting, enjoyable and useful book
This is a very good guide to the world of investing if you are just starting out. It goes into a great deal of detail when explaining various investment types and why you should, or shouldn’t get involved. It is worth bearing in find that the book is USA centric and some of the words, phrases and schemes are American. This isn’t a barrier to understanding, though, as, broadly speaking the system in the UK for basic investments that you would want to be involved with is the same and, since investing directly in US shares (or “stocks”) is as easy these days as in the UK.Even if you are relatively well heeled it’s always worth being reminded that, A: Investing in the Stock Market isn’t the same as gambling but B: If you’re silly (or unlucky) you can still a sizeable chunk, if not all, of your money.A well written, interesting, enjoyable and useful book. Investing for Dummies has some general information that is of value, however it is generally aimed at the American stock market, as to be expected.I have not had the opportunity to complete reading the book so at this moment I cannot fully review it from my own perspective. I can possibly write a more complete review in a month;s time.G.McGinty

Investing For Dummies
It's written in a tone that feels like my dad is explaining a mortgage to me, which I really like. I'll be honest, I tried as the book suggests to read it from start to end, as the more you know around a subject the better it is to achieve it - which is completely fair enough - and the starting parts explaining reasons why you should invest over keeping savings in a bank, pros and cons, then it goes a lot in the bulk middle of the book about stocks - and tried my hardest to understand, but it's a lot of information. You're really going to be either super keen, or a natural logical maths head to fully comprehend everything. However, the next chapters about small business investing and a small portion about starting one was very interesting, this part I found the greatest of information. It's not aimed at making millions, it's aimed at being smart with your money, and for the everyday man starting small and investing in a future; a retirement, or just a slightly affluent living. One point of note is that it is written for an American audience, though a lot of the facts still remain true - the references are a little based around non-UK things like 401k's and laws that don't exist here, but more general principles mentioned such as tax benefits for businesses, using a stockbroker, and general 'things to worry about' are all true across the board, regardless of personal whereabouts. Some things even for this recent edition may need extra research too with the current situation with Trump - there are some references to Obamacare in the health insurance sections that are obviously no longer accurate. What I like always is that the negatives are always mentioned as thinking parts. It's not a book made to convince you to invest, it's one giving you all the options to think about and make your own educated decision. It feels very much aimed at me - the type with curiosity, but this is my first book about investment i've ever read. I don't feel ready to invest after reading just this one, but it was an excellent starting point to keep researching.

Excellent Book to Get You Started
This is an excellent book to get you started. Investing can be a daunting prospect and the wall street firms seem to make it confusing so that they can give the pression only they can do what they do.Whilst you won't be fully conversant regarding stocks and bonds after reading it, you should feel more confident about which direction you want to go in financially. The book covers a range of topics including property investment.

A worthwhile investment
Very well written and practical. I find there's not enough helpful information for new investors, especially not the hugely wealthy ones...people with a few hundred or maybe less to play with tend to get alienated by the high-rolling books out there but aren't forgotten by this author. It's clear and teaches terminology without peppering it with jargon.
